More Than Ever Before, We Want to Talk about Equality

June is finally here. The sun is out, love is in the air, and streets in the world’s most vibrant cities are filled with rainbow-colored flags and every type of colorful merchandise you can think of. At least, that’s where we thought we’d be.

In reality, the world is under lockdown due to COVID-19, and America’s #BlackLivesMatter protest is spreading worldwide as people around the world stand in solidarity against racism.

Who are We to Change the World?

While we wish we could instantly make the world a better, safer place, we will have to make a difference with what we do have control over – the people who are close to us and share our values, our community.

Don’t get us wrong, we totally plan on changing the world by playing our part in reducing inequality. We just understand that not everyone thinks as we do. Meaning, it could take longer than we wish. You see, Rewire was built on the values of diversity, community, transparency, and social good. These values guide us on every decision we make and help shape both our company and the service we offer to our users.

More than Just a Slogan

Our company is as diverse as our customers. We are lucky to spend our days at work with men (50%), women (50%. 27% are in Rewire’s R&D team!), LGBTQ (more than 9%), and straight. We also work with African, Middle-Eastern, Asian, European and more expressions of diversity that we’ve never really thought of until we were forced to sit down and think about Pride Month 2020.

Turns out that this year’s focus is not only on celebrating pride, but on celebrating life, diversity, and equality for all. It’s actually funny when you think about it. Who’d have thought that in 2020 we would still need to talk about the importance of equality? You see, we usually don’t talk about it, we act on it.

We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to make their dreams come true. To not only feel like they fit in, but to actually belong. This is why we founded Rewire – to enable equal opportunity to those who are usually overlooked. To provide migrants with financial services that make them feel at home as they work hard towards a more financially secure future for themselves and their families.

Spread the Love

Usually, we’d write about pride and diversity, but it seems that we need to take a step back and recognize that changing the world is a lot more challenging than we’d hope. However, by being the change we want to see in the world, we are able to shape our own history, and hopefully, the history of a population that is mostly overlooked, yet no western country can currently function without.

Walking down the street of almost every Western metropolitan you’ll see so many expressions of diversity that manifest in more than just gender or skin color. You’ll probably see green-eyed people, brown-eyed people, left-handed people, tall, short, and whatnot. We are super excited to keep working alongside all these amazing people, and more importantly, serve these people as our customers. We plan to continue spreading love, what about you?
